Viduka out for 6 months

nufc news mark viduka.jpgBBC News are reporting that Mark Viduka could be out of action for a further six months, if he requires further surgery on his injured achilles. He has flown to Australia for a scan (because obviously, we don’t do scans on achilles in the UK??!!???).

Viduka has not played a game for Newcastle since May, but has scored 7 times in 21 appearances prior to that.

Gerry Francis?

nufc news gerry francis.jpg
BBC Sport are reporting that Joe Kinnear has approached Gerry Francis with a view to employing him on a short term basis in a coaching role. Now, I’m not sure about you, but this doesn’t excite me in the least. But it’ll only be short term.

Quotes from Joe:

“I have known Gerry Francis all my life, he’s a great coach, I know he is tied up with media work so I put an offer to him to come in on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

Owen overlooked

Michael Owen will not be representing England in the forthcoming world cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Although he has hit the back of the net 5 times in 7 outings, this seemingly isn’t enough for Capello.

“Is he in good form now? He’s scoring but it’s not enough to score goals. Sometimes I see games where a player has not played for 89 minutes and then scores a goal. It’s not enough. Goals are very important but not only goals.”

I’d like Mr Capello to show me another England striker with a consistent hit rate of 1 in 2 for both club and country, even when his club is a disorganised rabble like Newcastle United?

Everton 2 - 2 Newcastle United

A much improved performance from the boys. Maybe Joe’s verbal tirade against the journalists has had some effect on the players?

Everton drew first blood, when Nicky Butt hacked down Leighton Baines needlessly to concede a penalty, which was duly converted by Mikel Arteta. Everton then went 2-0 up on 35 minutes when Marouane Fellaini doubled their lead. Newcastle sneaked an almost unnoticed goal from a Stephen Taylor header on the stroke of half time, from a pin-point Geremi cross (I think the commentators had already left for their half time orange juice). Newcastle then started the second half in similar fashion, grabbing a well deserved leveller early in teh second half, when Duff slotted home a Stephen Taylor cross. The match ended as a stalemate 2-2.

Lets see what happens next week?

My meeting with Kevin went very well. I am hugely impressed with him and I got the sense there is a good chemistry between us and there is a strong mutual interest in working together.

“He is our preferred option, but we can’t make any concrete decisions on the management position until negotiations on our planned takeover are further advanced.”

Joe F*****g Kinnear!
